HOOK (Part 1): Mix up game. Have students form a few groups and get very tangled. Then tell them to untangle themselves without letting go of hands while in a circle. Explain that they start off with a problem and work together to create a solution.

Explain to students that there are situations that have a problem and people need to work together to create solutions. Brainstorm with class on how they would go about safely fixing the pine beetle infestation in western Canada?
Introduce the concept of what problem based learning is and assign students their summative PBL.
CONSOLIDATION: Let students get into groups and start brainstorming their ideas.
